Planning a Disney vacation in 2025? Then you’ve probably heard of Lightning Lane—Disney’s paid system for skipping the standby lines and accessing your favorite rides faster. But how many Lightning Lane passes per day can you actually get? How much do they cost? And what’s the best way to use them to save time?
In this complete guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Lightning Lane at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, including how many you can use per day, pricing, booking windows, and expert tips for maximizing the value of this premium feature.
How Many Lightning Lane passes per day can you get at Disney?
What Is Lightning Lane?
Lightning Lane is Disney’s expedited entry system (i/e paid skip the standby line option) that allows guests to bypass the regular standby queue at select attractions (rides and shows) and enter through a separate, shorter line.
As of July of 2024, the old Genie+ system is gone. In its place are two types of Lightning Lane passes:
-
Lightning Lane Multi Pass – This gives you access to multiple Lightning Lane selections throughout your park day.
-
Lightning Lane Single Pass – Also known as Individual Lightning Lane selections, this option lets you skip the line at Disney’s most in-demand attractions, sold à la carte.
Whether you’re traveling with kids, visiting for a short trip, or simply hate standing in long lines, Lightning Lane can make your experience much better—if you know how to use it wisely, and if it’s in your Disney budget!
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
What Is It?
The Lightning Lane Multi Pass is Disney’s new version of what used to be Genie+. It allows you to book access to a set number of attractions in advance and then continue to book more throughout your day as you redeem them.
How Many Lightning Lane passes per day can You Get with a Multi Pass?
-
You can pre-select up to 3 attractions per day before your park visit. These are grouped by Tier 1 and Tier 2 categories.
-
Once you use one of those passes, you can begin booking additional Lightning Lane selections one at a time, throughout the day.
-
There is no hard limit to how many Lightning Lane passes per day you can get on the actual day, but practically speaking, most guests get between 5–8 rides using Lightning Lane. You can get more if you are savvy and book early and often, and refresh the app. Join my newsletter to get access to my free pdfs and montly tips on Lightning Lane and all things for planning an efficient and magical Disney trip-without spending your whole day in line!

-
Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 13 attractions (including Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway)

Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly Individual Lightning Lane)
What Is It?
The Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly “Individual Lightning Lane”) allows you to pay to skip the standby line at the most popular attractions in the park—typically one or two per park.
How Many Can You Get Per Day?
You may purchase up to 2 Individual Lightning Lane selections per day, per guest, regardless of how many parks you visit (even with Park Hopper tickets).
Pricing
Prices range from $15 to $25 per attraction per person, depending on the ride and the date. Some of the highest-demand attractions may even cost up to $30 during holidays or peak seasons.
Examples of rides that typically use Individual Lightning Lane:
-
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Disney World or Disneyland)
-
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (EPCOT i/e Disney World)
-
Tron Lightcycle / Run (Magic Kingdom at Disney World)
-
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Magic Kingdom at Disney World)
-
Radiator Springs Racers (Disneyland)
These prices do not include tax and can change daily based on availability and demand.
Using Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World vs. Disneyland
While the concept of Lightning Lane is the same at both resorts, the way it works can vary significantly.
Walt Disney World (Orlando, FL)
-
Booking Time: 7:00 AM Eastern Time
-
Advance Booking for Resort Guests: Yes (7 days ahead for Multi Pass)
-
Device Required: MagicBand+, MagicMobile (via app), or physical ticket
-
Multiple Parks: Yes, if you have Park Hopper
-
Redeem via: My Disney Experience app or MagicBand
Disneyland Resort (Anaheim, CA)
-
Booking Time: Only once you enter the park for the day
-
Advance Booking for Resort Guests: No
-
Device Required: Disneyland app only (no MagicBand+ requirement, though compatible)
-
Multiple Parks: Yes, but only after you’ve scanned into the second park
-
Redeem via: Disneyland app only
If you’re used to planning far in advance, Walt Disney World gives you more tools to do so. Disneyland’s same-day booking model makes it more spontaneous but potentially more stressful during peak seasons.

How to Purchase Lightning Lane Passes
Both Disney World and Disneyland make it easy to purchase Lightning Lane passes- but keep in mind they do use different apps. Each park has its own unique app and it’s important to get familiar with these apps ahead of time. For more info on using the My Disney Experience app check out this blog!

-
-
When to Book
-
For best availability, book as soon as the window opens (7:00 AM ET for WDW 7 days ahead of time for hotel guests, 3 days ahead of time for non Disney or Disney good neighbor hotel guests; park entry at DL).
-
Use your first Lightning Lane as early as possible, then immediately book the next one after tapping in. It’s best to book an easy and quick Lighting Lane early in the morning and do it first, then that opens you up early in the day to start booking both Tier 1 and Tier 2 attractions for the rest of the day, one at a time. You can hold up to 3 Lightning Lane MultiPass attraction reservations at one time at Walt Disney World, and one at a time at Disneyland.
Can You Modify a Lightning Lane Reservation?
Yes! In the latest update, you can now modify or cancel a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection before its return window, giving more flexibility to adjust your day as plans shift- and beleive me they will!
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Lightning Lane

1. Start Early
Whether you’re using Multi Pass or Single Pass, the most coveted return times are gone early in the day. Set an alarm and be ready to book. Factor in if you have access to Early Entry, which will allow you to get some high demand rides in before the park opens to regular guests. For a list of hotels with access to both Early Entry and 7 day booking windows check out this resource.
2. Know the Tiers
Walt Disney World’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass system uses a tiered structure in each park.
-
Tier 1: The most in-demand rides. You may pre-book only one of these per day.
-
Tier 2: All other eligible Lightning Lane attractions. You may pre-book up to two Tier 2 rides per day.
You can hold three advance selections total per day (1 Tier 1 + 2 Tier 2), then continue booking more after redeeming one. Animal Kingdom doesn’t follow these rules, however, because there are less options.

Note: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a Single Pass ride and not included in Multi Pass.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom – No Tiers

Unlike the other parks, Animal Kingdom does not use a tier system—you can select any three Lightning Lane Multi Pass attractions in advance.
Multi Pass Eligible Attractions (choose any 3):
-
DINOSAUR
-
Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
-
Feathered Friends in Flight! (live show)
-
Festival of the Lion King (live show)
-
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! (live show)

-

-
Kilimanjaro Safaris
-
Na’vi River Journey
Lightning Lane Single Pass
-
Avatar Flight of Passage is not included in the Multi Pass and requires a separate Single Pass purchase.
3. Refresh the App
Keep checking the app for availability. Guests frequently cancel or change their plans, so new time slots can open up—even for high-demand rides and even ahead of your trip or the same day. The new modify feature makes this super easy so defintely check back both before your trip and especially the day of your park visit!
4. Combine with Park Hopper
-
Walt Disney World: With a Park Hopper ticket, you must start your day in the park where you’ve pre-booked your Multi Pass, use at least your first Lightning Lane there, and then you may hop to another park and continue booking additional Lightning Lanes immediately after redeeming your first ride.
-
Disneyland Resort (Anaheim):
-
You may enter either park first and use Lightning Lane Multi Pass there.
-
However, park hopping is only allowed after 11 a.m., so your next Lightning Lane reservation in the other park can only be after both hopping and entering that park.
-
You cannot book or use Lightning Lane in a park you haven’t entered yet.
-
5. Use With Rider Switch or DAS
-
Lightning Lane can still be used with Rider Switch for guests waiting with little ones or those needing to alternate rides.
-
You can still combine with Disability Access Service (DAS) for eligible guests, letting them access Lightning Lane entrances.
Sample Lightning Lane Disney Park Itineraries
Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom example (Multi Pass + Single Passes):
-
Pre-book Multi Pass: Jungle Cruise or Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as your Tier 1 depending on your preference (see other options above) then Tier 2: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean
-
Redeem 1st: Try to make your 1st ride something simple and easy to get on and off first thing in the morning, Haunted Mansion or Pirates are positioned well and could be good choices (for complete strategies and itineraries, consider checking out my Pixie Park Plans) if you then want to or need to book Big Thunder Mountain (currently closed for an extended refurbishment while Frontierland is being re-imagined), Haunted Mansion, or Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (if you didn’t have these pre-booked). Magic Kingdom has the most of any Lightning Lane attractions, but if you still plan to park hop, then choose your top 3 and then start making your reservations for your other park.
-
Immediately book next Multi: One of the above, or if you are in Tomorrowland, book Space Mountain next, or Buzz Lightyear if you have less adventurous plans. Winnie the Pooh is also a good option for this side of the park, as is Peter Pan if you didn’t book it already, though it fills up quite fast, so if you want to do this and don’t have it prebooked, then try to book it right away.
-
Late-day: It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean if you didn’t do this earlier, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Dumbo, or any other easier to get attraction.
-
Single Passes: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON Lightcycle Run
-
Total Lightning Lanes: ~8–10
Disneyland Resort (Multi Pass + Single Passes):
-
Morning (enter): Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, or Indiana Jones Adventure; book any Lightning Lane Single Passes you would like ASAP like Radiator Springs Racers (California Adventure) and/or Rise of the Resistance (Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland)
-
After 11 a.m., park hop + in-park booking: Matterhorn or plan to park hop and get Disney California Adventure pics like Mission Breakout, WEBSLINGERS (hard to get), or the Incredicoaster
-
Afternoon: Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, Star Tours, Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run, or any of the above, or others at California Adventure if you are park hopping.
-
Total Lightning Lanes: ~6-8
Summary
-
At Walt Disney World, you must use your first Lightning Lane in the park you pre-booked, but once redeemed, you can hop anytime and continue booking across parks.
-
At Disneyland Resort, park-hopping and booking in a second park is only possible after 11 a.m. and after entering that park.
-
Lightning Lane still works with Rider Switch and DAS, offering flexibility for families and guests with accessibility needs.
Is Lightning Lane Worth It?
Whether or not Lightning Lane is worth the added cost depends on your trip goals, and your Disney budget:
Pros:
-
Saves time on popular rides
-
Ideal for short trips, one and only trips or once every few years trips, or park hoppers
-
Less time in the sun or rain
-
Flexibility to plan around shows or dining reservations
Cons:
-
Added cost to already expensive tickets
-
Can be stressful to manage if you don’t book early
-
Not needed for every attraction, especially during lower crowd seasons
Families with younger children, first-time visitors, and guests who hate long lines tend to see the most value from using Lightning Lane. But if you’re visiting during a low-crowd week or love to go with the flow and be more spontaneous, you may not need it or it might not be for you.
The Wrap Up: How Many Lightning Lane Passes Per Day Can You Get at Disney?
To summarize:
-
With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can get 3 advance selections, plus as many additional ones as you can fit into your day (typically 5–8 total, but with good planning you can actually get them all done).
-
With Lightning Lane Single Pass, you can purchase up to 2 per day per guest, no matter how many parks you visit.
-
Combining both allows access to up to 10 or more attractions with shorter waits if planned well.
Lightning Lane isn’t required or necessary to have a great Disney vacation—but for many Disney park guests, it makes sense and is a game changer for saving time, minimizing stress, and hitting all the must-dos with (relative) ease.
