Complete Packing Guide: What to Wear to Disneyland in July
Trying to figure out what to wear to Disneyland Park in July? July is one of the most popular months of the year to visit the Disneyland Resort, and while it’s a great time for a Disney vacation, it also brings long days, hot weather, and plenty of time on your feet. That’s why planning ahead for what you are going to wear is a good idea. In this guide, I’ll walk you through what to pack, what to wear, and how to feel cool, comfortable, and Disneyland-ready all day long.

Understanding July Weather at the Disneyland Resort
Let’s start with the basics: California weather in July, especially in Southern California, is all about sunshine. The average high temperature usually falls in the upper 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit. It’s warm, sometimes dry, and definitely not the cold weather season.
However, early mornings can still bring chilly mornings, with temperatures dipping into the 60s, so light layers are your best friend. This is also true for late evenings- I have had to wear a hoodie in late July in Disneyland, and I live in Colorado so I’m not wimpy when it comes to cold weather!
While warm days are the norm, it’s still smart to check the weather forecast a few days before your trip. Packing with some flexibility allows you to be ready for rainy days, occasional cooler temperatures, or an unexpected breeze in the evening.
Your Disneyland Outfit Strategy: Style Meets Function
Let’s talk about what to wear. Yes, you want to look cute for those Sleeping Beauty Castle pics, but common sense and comfort are key for surviving long days at the Disney theme parks, even the smaller and more manageable Disneyland.
Start with Layers
It may be hot by noon, but early mornings at Disneyland can be deceivingly cool. Here’s a great option: start with a tank top or short sleeve shirt, then throw on a zip-up hoodie or pullover sweatshirt, light jacket, or cardigan as an extra layer for rope drop. You can always stash it in your bag or locker later. A rain coat can double as a layer and keep you ready for any surprise storms (these aren’t as common in Disneyland in the late summer as they are in Disney World but they still happen).
Light layers give you options throughout the day, especially if you’re bouncing between indoor attractions with AC and outdoor queues in the sun.
Here are some layers I like and recommend:
Mickey themed, soft, light sweatshirt
And for the kiddos:
Mickey hoodies for kids
Light rain jacket for kids, featuring Stitch but this also comes in a Disney Princess style
Stick to Breathable Fabrics
Warm weather calls for breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics. Think cotton, bamboo, linen, or performance blends. This applies to tops, shorts, and even dresses. Avoid anything too tight or synthetic—hot days in clingy clothes are no fun.
Some ideas I have tried for breathable type fabrics and can highly recommend:
I love these skorts as they are breathable and comfy and you don’t get too hot in them.
I also love Halara for breathable jumpsuits, light and packable pants, and sport dresses with pockets! They have something for all shapes and sizes, and their pants are always stretchy and great for hot weather (the Breezeful High Waisted Crossover pants I’m wearing in this EPCOT photo are my absolute favorite; I always get compliments on them and they are very comfortable and lightweight). Their clothes are a summer staple for all of my Disney packing lists. Here’s a link to their site.
Consider Your Evening Outfit
When the sun goes down, cooler temperatures can sneak in—especially if you stay for fireworks or head to Disney California Adventure for nighttime entertainment. Pack a soft pullover or shawl for those night time hours. If you’re headed back to your hotel room in the middle of the day, that’s a great way to freshen up and switch into something comfy for the evening.
The Best Shoes for a Day at Disneyland
Let’s be real—your comfortable shoes might be the most important part of your entire outfit. The Disneyland Resort is extensive, and you’ll easily log 20,000+ steps exploring Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. It’s not as difficult as a Disney World day though (but that’s one of the things I love about Disneyland).
Here are some good choices when it comes to the best shoes for Disney:
- Athletic sneakers with great arch support- I’m a big fan of Addidas sneakers or a comfy tennis shoe style like this one by Skechers: Skechers Women's Bobs B Cute Shoe$25.60

- Lightweight slip-ons or mesh walking shoes; I have been fine with walking all over Disneyland in TOMS but keep in mind they don’t have much arch support. They are a great back up shoe if you need one as they are super packable!
Avoid flimsy flip-flops unless you’re headed to the pool at your hotel. I can, however, vouch for Oofos flip flops- I have worn them for a full Disneyland day an night and no sore feet!
And don’t wear a new pair of shoes for the first time at the parks—blisters are the fastest way to ruin a magical time. Be sure to read this blog to learn more about how to prevent and treat blisters.
Shoe tip: Add gel insoles or wear moisture-wicking socks for extra comfort.

Timing Your July Trip Right
July is a great time to visit if you love that classic summer vacation vibe. That said, it’s also one of the busiest times of year, especially around the 4th of July (July 4th-6th will likely be the busiest this year). If you can, go during the first or last week of the month for slightly lower crowds.
Getting to the parks early is the best way to beat the heat and the crowds. Arriving for rope drop lets you hit the headliners before lines build and gives you more flexibility to take breaks in the hotel room during the peak sun hours.
If you’re deciding between Disneyland and Walt Disney World, keep in mind that Southern California typically has more pleasant summer weather. Florida’s hot weather plus humidity can make July feel extra intense!
Final Thoughts: Make the Most of Your Magical July Visit
A Disneyland vacation in July is full of sunshine, joy, and all the magic that the Disney parks are famous for. With a little planning and the right outfits, you’ll be ready for whatever the Disneyland Resort throws your way.
Here’s the recap:
- Dress in light layers and breathable fabrics
- Pack comfortable shoes and rotate between pairs
- Prepare for warm weather, but bring extra layers for chilly mornings and cooler temperatures at night
- Accessorize with magic but keep it practical
- Use common sense when choosing your outfits—function matters as much as fashion
Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, July is a great time to enjoy the happiest place on Earth. Pack smart, dress comfortably, and get ready for a magical time with your favorite people.
